Christmas Market Visit 2009

Year 10 tell us about their visit to Germany

After returning from this German trip we do not feel that we could have had a better time. We have gained experience using the language and really enjoyed ourselves.

We visited several Christmas markets all offering the most amazing collection of presents in so many colours.

It seems that no one decorates quite like the Germans at Christmas. Their taste is impeccable. The Christmas trees in Köln were decorated with beautiful lights and baubles.

The markets really looked like pictures on Christmas cards.

We also visited Aachen where we had a walk around the old town and were grateful that we did not have to taste the water with its healing power. One of the highlights of the

visit was a guided tour of the famous Aachen cathedral which is a world heritage site. The decoration was amazing. This was also very informative. We also managed to visit

two more markets in Aachen which sold local specialities and different local crafts.

The last evening was spent at a medieval style market where we participated in a medieval play and wedding ceremony which everyone really enjoyed.

Our last place to visit before returning home was the chocolate factory, it would be impossible not to enjoy this. We all spent lots of money buying different chocolates at the

end of the tour.

All that is left to say is a huge thank you to all the teachers especially Frau Douglas for taking us. We all really enjoyed ourselves, it was an amazing experience. “That we will

remember for the rest of our lives and hopefully return on our own at a later date.”
