Visit by Mrs Kelly Freeman (nee Hora), OB 1975-1982
Mrs Kelly Freeman (was an Old Babingtonian from 1975 - 1982). She has worked for four Prime Ministers during her career in Government as part of Director of Communications in the Civil Service. She described Mrs Thatcher as the most impressive Prime Minister she worked for. Mrs Freeman, who is Master of the City of London Guild of Public Relations Practitioners, recalled when she last met Mrs Thatcher, who came across a crowded room of city gents, congratulated her on her new appointment, pointed to Mrs Freeman's ceremonial badge of office and said "Girl Power!"
Mrs Freeman still works hard running her own business as a communications consultant, spending a large part of her time in the Middle East. She spoke in assembly with great appreciation about her time at Babington House, where she was Head Girl in 1982, especially in the way it encouraged her to have an informed opinion and fostered a love of learning.
Her presentation was an inspiration to the girls who had the privilege to listen. She said that pupils at Babington House School have fantastic opportunities ahead of them. Her advice for the girls was, "be happy, work hard to achieve your qualifications, work hard because you want to; be confident, ambitious and form your own opinions, and finally, come back and visit the school, stay in touch and give back to others".
