Our students develop interests that stay with them for life, as well as learning a variety of skills that will enable them stand out in a fast-changing world. We recognise the value of co-curricular activities such as Music and Drama as an intrinsic part of our students’ development.

Music

A large number of pupils at Babington learn a musical instrument, take vocal training and enjoy the school orchestra. All our music and singing lessons are conducted through individual teachers directly and parents will be invoiced by the tutor.

The Music recital room is always a hive of activity and a wonderful centre for music making. Students can join one of our many ensembles and access music individually through our one-to-one instrumental and singing lessons, with visiting professional musicians.

We offer a broad ensemble programme from small, instrument-specific chamber groups such as our String Quartets to larger ensembles like the Wind Band or Senior Choir, which anyone is welcome to join. Singing is an important part of what we do and in addition to the School Choir, we run an auditioned Chamber Choir. There are regular informal concerts, chamber concerts and trips. Music scholarships are also available.

Drama

Whether behind the scenes, controlling the state of the art lighting and sound facilities, in the chorus or centre stage, everyone at Babington House has the opportunity to become fully involved with the work of our wonderful Drama department. We have a major theatrical production every year, alternating between a musical and a play, as well as many other performances throughout the school year.

Productions

Treasure Island

This outstandingly raucous performance took place in April 2023, with over 70 students from the Senior and Prep School, directed by the Head of Drama Mrs Mcleod-Jones.

Oliver!

Lionel Bart’s timeless musical, Oliver, bounced onto the stage at Babington House, led by a wonderfully talented cast, singing and dancing their way through Charles Dickens’ story. This extravaganza of excellence was directed by Mrs McLeod-Jones (Head of Drama), with Musical Direction by Mrs Nikula (Head of Music). With a cast of over 100 students from both the Senior and Prep school, we were presented with yet another theatrical and musical triumph.
